Well, here it is, my very first attempt at blogging, which for this time, is just cutting and pasting of a list of prayer requests about my upcoming trip to Ayaviri, Peru. Here's a little background.. this is my 5th trip to Peru. Every trip has been with a group from either First Baptist Church Port Neches, or with the Golden Triangle Baptist Association. The missions are medical/dental. Our team includes doctors, nurses, dentists, eye doctors and a pharmacist. The rest of the team assists in various ways , I go as a translator for the pharmacist. Previous trips have been to Huancane' - we minister to the Aymara people. Huancane' is at about 13,000 feet in the Andes mountains. In January of 2009, I went with a small team to Ayaviri - a larger town in the Andes. Our team was evangelistic with the goal of laying the ground work for future mission trips including a place to hold a medical/dental/eye clinic in Ayaviri. We are not returning to Huancane' this year b/c the missionaries who serve there are back in the US for the rest of this year. Our trip in January was AMAZING. God opened so many doors for us to share the Gospel with skits, distribution of tracts and showing the Jesus film. We also attended services at the Iglesia Evangelica Peruana (Peruvian Evangelical Church) and scouted a place for this years medical clinic. Our trip is coming together for June 26th-July 4th 2009. The people group in Ayaviri are the Quechua. They are the group the Inca came from - they are very proud to be Quechuan - I guess you could call them the "Texans" of the Andean people. Some prayer requests are pasted in below, so please add them to your prayer lists. Also, please add this personal one for me-
we are going to be sharing the Bible through Bible Storying - which is an exciting way to share the Bible to people who have never heard of God or Jesus etc. Since I speak Spanish, I will be telling my stories without a translator. Please pray that I will be able to learn the stories I have been assigned, recall my Spanish and faithfully tell them to the people in Ayaviri.
Prayer Requests for the Mission Work to the Quechua people of Ayaviri: 1) For the three Summer Missionaries that will be in Ayaviri for 7 weeks in June and July. Penny Jo Nichols will be representing FBCPN. Pray for the purity and the power of the Holy Spirit to be manifest in and through their lives. Pray that the living presence of Christ will be expressed through them. 2) That the Gospel will come in power to the people of Ayaviri and that it will be shared with deep conviction by our mission team. 3) That we will be observant to where God is working and preparing individuals, families, or neighborhoods for His Story. That he will lead us (or mission teams that go before us) to "Men/Women of Peace." 4) A location (house, or store front) to meet for our 3 Storying Teams. 5) That the local government and medical community will continue to be supportive of our efforts in Ayaviri. 6) Adequate facilities for the medical/dental/vision clinic if it is not held at Iglesia Evangelica Peruana (i.e. if it is held at/near a new church planting location) 7) That all medical/dental/vision supplies will get through customs. 8) That there will be no strikes, road blocks, demonstrations, etc. that would hinder our efforts or travel. 9) That if we experience any obstacles, that we will handle them fearlessly, wisely and be at peace about them.
